It is with great respect and appreciation to the staff and board of the Beacon House for the legacy they have created over the past 60 years. The field of substance use treatment has changed so dramatically over the past 60 years that many providers have not been able to survive let alone thrive. Due to the leadership and commitment of the Beacon House team, they are a shining example of what a mission and values driven organization can achieve. Thank you for all you have given to the community.

June 18th of 2017 landed on Father’s Day and I was being driven to The Beacon House by my wife, children, parents and younger brother. As we were passing by Fisherman’s Wharf I could see so many families and I could only imagine that they were celebrating their Fathers, and here I was, being driven to a Rehab, It felt like the worst day of my life, but little did I know that it would become the best day of my life! I went in with an open heart and mind and absorbed EVERYTHING that we were taught about addiction. I made the best of my time there and as a result of that I had an amazingly good time and quickly learned that I could have fun without drugs and alcohol which was a VERY important lesson to walk back into society with. The golfing lessons with PGA’s own Ducky O’Toole, surfing lessons with the professional “Big Wave” surfer Daryl “Flea” Virostko and the equine therapy that was mixed in with the drug/alcohol and life lessons were SUPERB. And last but not least (my favorite) the group therapy with the world class Psychologist Dr. Larimer, counselors Megan, Josh and Bonnie was a place where I felt safe to talk about everything and anything in my life that had a foothold on me, Dr “L” helped me to identify those things and character defects that have now helped me to be a better person. I will forever be indebted to Dr. Larimer, Kate, Megan and the rest of the staff that was pulling for me to help me stay when my insurance decided to cut my inpatient benefits, I believe their efforts truly saved my life because I was able to continue to learn for another 20 days. The comraderie and friendships that were built there I believe will last a lifetime. Also, kudos to the amazing top of the line chefs in Jim, Kirk and Mario who did a FANTASTIC job with all the gourmet dishes, the food was to die for!!! Thank you Beacon House, I love you all!!!

I didn't want to go to rehab in the beginning but just had to. My family found the beacon house and i agreed to go. That was the best thing i could have even done for myself. I learned all the different aspects of addiction and a lot about myself. I especially loved the food. I felt ready to try life a healthier way when my 28 days were over. Now 9 years sober and being able to teach surfing through the beacon house is the coolest thing ever! Thank you beacon house for all you do for many. Darryl Flea Virostko

Beacon House encompasses much more than a beautiful, Victorian-era mansion. There is a feeling of hope and community shared by the countless number of dedicated staff, generosity of alumni and volunteers, and the generations of families who been helped over the years. I am grateful and honored to be part of the team committed to offering treatment for a lifetime of recovery from alcohol and other drugs.
